Cox vs.  State of Washington, DSHS
Jury Trial Closing Arguments

TACOMA, WA (July 28, 2020)Today, at 9:00 AM (PST), in Pierce County Superior Court Ceremonial Courtroom (Courtroom 100), before Judge Stanley J. Rumbaugh, closing arguments in Cox v. State of Washington, DSHS will be presented.

This trial originally began on February 18, 2020, then was suspended less than a month later due to the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order issued by Governor Inslee. This is a nationally publicized wrongful death case involving the deaths of two young boys, sons of Susan Powell, at the hands of their father Josh Powell. After nearly four months in recess, the trial resumed on July 9th under one of the first socially distanced in-person jury trials ever.

“Bringing jurors back to the courthouse has posed numerous challenges and concerns including health, safety and social distancing; presentation equipment and exhibit handling; and remote witness testimony, along with other organization issues. We are all trying to navigate through this unprecedented situation. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the cooperation of the Court and all parties involved, it has worked remarkably well,” stated Christian Tiedemann, Founding Partner of Prolumina. Tiedemann’s company, Prolumina, provided all the technology necessary to make the continuation of this jury trial even possible.
